Foz do Iguaçu

Water planet

By Ricardo Freire

You will never see a postcard like this. Many Brazilians travel the world to be face to face with the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, or the Grand Canyon, without realizing that one of the most spectacular views on the planet is right here at their front door, closer than their neighbor.

Iguaçu Falls provides a continuous show 365 days a year, no matter the weather. The spectacle changes according to your vantage point – but is just as beautiful up close, from a distance, from below or from above.

Even business travelers – and there are many, since Foz is an important business center – can easily take a quick peek. The park is only 15 minutes away from the city center by car, and even closer to the airport.

O que fazer em Foz do Iguaçu

The Brazilian park is the most comfortable vantage point to see the waterfall. Go on the Macuco Safari (a boating adventure that takes you very close to one of the falls). Visit the Parque das Aves (Bird Park). If you can, ante up and go on the helicopter tour.

The Argentinean park is more rustic and requires more physical effort, but takes you closer to the water. To see everything (including Isla San Martín), you will need two days. The boat ride, Aventura Náutica (Nautical Adventure), is more radical than the one on the Brazilian side.

Don’t miss the tour of Itaipu. If you go shopping in Ciudad del Este, take a taxi. At night, check out the restaurants and the action at Puerto Iguazú.
