Medical certificates and other forms

Essential information for those requiring special assistance

For passengers requiring special assistance—whether temporary or permanent—we provide all the necessary support for their journey. In such cases, it is necessary to complete the Medical Information Form, including all details provided by the physician.

MEDIF medical certificate

Passengers requiring medical attention or special equipment during the flight must complete the MEDIF form; this form must be filled out by the passenger's physician and submitted to GOL between 15 days and 72 hours prior to departure. Following a thorough review of the form, our team issues a determination regarding the passenger's fitness for air travel. Should any questions arise concerning the MEDIF form, or if additional medical tests are required, these may be requested at no cost to GOL.

FREMEC medical card

Access the FREMEC form and find out other important information for those wishing to apply for the document.

The Frequent Traveller Medical Card (FREMEC) is a card issued to make travel easier for passengers who require special assistance.

If you have a chronic, stable medical condition—and fly with us frequently—we suggest completing and submitting the FREMEC for review by GOL’s medical team.

Once the form is approved, a card with a set validity period is issued for you to use on your travels.

Recent surgeries

If you undergo surgery less than 30 days before your departure date, you must submit the MEDIF (between 15 days and 72 hours before the flight) for review by GOL's medical team.

Medical conditions requiring prior authorization from the GOL team

Certain acute illnesses (such as cardiorespiratory conditions or stroke), surgeries, injuries resulting from accidents, or chronic conditions require prior authorization from GOL’s medical team for travel.

Therefore, we recommend contacting our customer service team to find out which documents and forms must be prepared before boarding.

Medical equipment

Some medical devices, such as nebulizers and inhalers, are permitted as carry-on baggage but their use on board is prohibited.

However, essential medical devices—such as pacemakers and continuous medication infusion pumps—are permitted.

Regarding needles and syringes on board, transport is authorized provided the passenger carries medication with professionally printed labels identifying the drug and the manufacturer or pharmaceutical company, along with a medical prescription.

Stretcher on board

If your health condition prevents you from traveling seated or with the seatback in the upright position, GOL offers a stretcher transport service.

To request this service, you must submit the MEDIF form at least 72 hours before the flight. The request will be evaluated by our medical team.

Medicines

You may carry medication in your hand luggage, but you must also bring the medical prescription. We recommend asking your doctor for an additional prescription and, if necessary, obtaining one in the language of your destination country. It is also advisable to have a doctor's report on hand to present to airport security officials.

It is also important to note that certain medications, such as insulin, require specific handling during transport. Therefore, please contact the manufacturer to find out the proper way to store and transport the medication during the flight.

If dry ice is required to preserve the medication, please be aware that there is a limit of 2.5 kg of dry ice allowed in both hand luggage and checked baggage.

Oxygen on board

Passengers with heart and/or respiratory conditions who require supplemental oxygen on board must submit the MEDIF form to us at least 72 hours prior to travel.

Please note that GOL's oxygen service is for use exclusively inside the aircraft. If oxygen is required in the departure lounge, during connections, or upon disembarkation, it must be provided by the passenger or their accompanying party.

alertaImportant: Use of on-board oxygen requires tests for oxygen saturation in ambient air and a recent hemoglobin test.

Passengers with health issues who require a companion

If necessary, GOL offers the accompanying person an 80% discount on the airfare.

In such cases, the accompanying person must be over 18 years of age and capable of providing assistance to the passenger with special needs throughout the flight. The discount will be applied only after the MEDIF or FREMEC forms have been completed and approved.

Passengers traveling with emotional support animals (ESAN)

GOL does not transport emotional support dogs.

Boarding with a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC)

If you need to travel with a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC), please contact our Customer Service Center in advance at 0800 704 0465 so we can make the necessary preparations and authorize your travel. We recommend contacting us between 15 days and 72 hours prior to your flight.

The equipment may be carried on board as hand luggage—without extra fees or excess baggage charges—provided that the transport conditions for the device are met.

Conditions for using and transporting a POC as hand luggage
You must submit the Medical Information Form (MEDIF) at least 72 hours before your flight's departure for advance review by the GOL Medical Team.
You must be able to hear any POC alarms, see indicator lights, and react accordingly. If you cannot perceive these signals from the device, you must travel with a companion who is able to see and hear the alarms.
The POC may be used during the flight provided it meets hand luggage size and specification requirements. You may keep it with you at your seat or place it under the seat in front of you throughout the flight, following standard hand luggage stowage guidelines. If the device must be stowed in the overhead bin, it must be turned off and use must be discontinued while the aircraft is moving, as well as during takeoff and landing.
To use the POC during the flight, you must book a window seat. This seat cannot be located in the first few rows or at the emergency exits.
You may use the POC while moving around the cabin, provided the "fasten seatbelt" sign is not illuminated. The POC must be free of oil, grease, or other petroleum derivatives and must be in good condition, showing no damage or excessive wear.
If you intend to use the POC during the flight, you are not permitted to travel with animals in the cabin*.
* Guide dogs or hearing dogs are permitted on all flights operated by GOL, provided they are accompanying persons with disabilities. Emotional support dogs are permitted on flights to or from the USA and Cancun.

This service is available only for flights operated by GOL. For codeshare flights involving other airlines, you must check the conditions directly with the carriers involved in your trip.

Conditions for transporting additional power sources (batteries) for the POC
The devices may be used on board provided you have an independent power source (battery) that meets GOL's requirements:
Additional batteries must be fully charged to power your equipment for at least 150% of the total flight duration, accounting for layovers and connections, and including potential delays and/or unforeseen circumstances.
Aircraft power outlets may not be used to operate or charge the POC.
Passengers may carry up to two spare batteries (lithium-ion), provided they do not exceed 160 Wh.
Spare batteries may not be transported as checked baggage; they must be carried as hand luggage.
Batteries must be in good condition and individually packaged to prevent contact with one another.

Neurodegenerative Diseases

GOL cares about your well-being; to ensure a smooth journey, passengers with neurodegenerative conditions (such as Alzheimer's or Multiple Sclerosis) that cause memory loss or disorientation must submit a MEDIF form to us 48 hours prior to travel (whether traveling alone or with a companion).

GOL offers an 80% discount on the airfare for the accompanying person.
Please note that the companion must be capable of attending to the customer's personal and medical needs. For further information, please contact our customer service center at 0800 704 0465.
